The bathroom can both be a relaxing and dangerous place for anyone at home, especially when we deal with the elders. Bathrooms can be dangerous for those older people who cannot already be up steady on their feet. Hence, it could help a lot that in your bathroom remodeling plans, you remove anything that would put them in much danger. And instead, apply some other accessories that would make that portion of the house much safer.

In your Nashville bathroom remodeling, you can choose to install walk in bathtubs. These prevent the idea of getting out of the tub and slipping accidentally on wet floor, no matter what your age may be. These walk in bathtubs come in a wide variety of models, shapes and sizes which of course serves as your regular bathtub. Some of them even come with powered bath seats and watertight doors to limit the dangers of tripping.

You can also decide to install transfer benches which help the user slide into the tub without any danger. In shopping for this, what’s important that your choice of a transfer bench can be able to support the weight of anyone. The average transfer bench can only handle about 250 pounds and below. If you are something that can handle more than that, then seek to know more about the bariatric models.

The grab bars can be seen as useful too not only for the older people. It can be installed in numerous locations all around the bathroom and not just in the shower or tub. You can be sure that it won’t ruin the aesthetics of your bathroom’s total look for in the market today, grab bars already come in various finishes and colors too.

If you have an elderly with you in your home, then you must consider to include in your bathroom remodeling plans to widen up the bathroom door just a little bit more. Even if they are not yet using the wheelchair to get around in any place, you might want to expect that happening soon enough as well. So consider addressing all the possible concerns you might encounter so you can steer away from always giving your bathroom another luxurious remodeling. In fact, you might want to decide having a sliding glass door for easier access to your bathroom.

You can choose to do the Nashville bathroom remodeling on your own but it can help you a lot better if you would seek the help of a bathroom remodeling contractor.

A brand-new kitchen, a brand-new bathroom: two rooms guaranteed to generate excitement, especially now. In the last decade, new products and innovative styles have changed the appearance, the substance, even the role of these rooms. Among the changes: whirlpool baths, European cabinetry, solid laminates for counter tops, sinks in a profusion of shapes and colors, and the expanded use of ceramic tile.

Maybe you’re planning a remodeling job to incorporate these changes. If so, plan to spend $1,500 to $2,000 for new bathroom fixtures, $5,000 to $7,000 for a complete revision by a contractor, and $15,000 or more if you want to expand your current 5′ x 8′ cubicle into a “super bath” complete with a large whirlpool tub, stylish tile work, and the best cabinetry. Kitchen remodeling can be just as expensive: New cabinets alone are $2,000 to $4,000, and a complete redo costs from $8,000 to $15,000 or more. The good news is that when you sell your home you’ll recover 70 to 100 percent of the cost of adding a new bathroom, 45 to 55 percent of the cost of remodeling a bathroom, and 60 to 100 percent of the cost of a new kitchen Baths

The typical bathtub is 16″ high, 29″ to 32″ wide, and 5′ long—a length that accounts for the standardized 5′ x 8′ bathroom.

Bathtubs are also made in other shapes and sizes and are available with accessories such as whirlpool pumps, flexible shower hoses, and grab bars. The three most common basic materials are cast iron and stamped steel—both ceramic coated— and glass fiber-reinforced plastic.

The cast iron tub is very heavy, solid and durable, and the most expensive of the three types. The stamped sheet steel tub is about half the weight of the cast iron tub and noticeably more flexible.

Cabinets

With some 6,000 manufacturers of kitchen cabinets in America today, you can count on one thing: variety. There’s a wide range of styles, materials, quality, and price to choose from.

Cabinets are either factory-made or custom-made. Factory-made units may come from large, nationally (or internationally) known firms or a local shop. Unless they are custom ordered, they will be made to standard sizes. Standard sizing, such as the height of base cabinets, assures a fit with dishwashers and other standard appliances. The advantage of factory-made cabinets is that you can see what you’re getting before you buy it. One sign of durability is the performance seal of the National Kitchen Cabinet Association (NKCA).

The advantage of custom-made cabinets, on the other hand, is that your kitchen may not accommodate standard sizes or you may not fit with standard sizes. If you’re shorter or taller than average and want counter tops you can work at comfortably, custom cabinetry offers you optional cabinet and counter heights and sizes. Custom cabinetry also offers you the option of using special woods or unique designs. Before you hire a cabinetmaker to do a custom kitchen, be sure to visit his past work.

Traditional wood cabinets are still two-thirds of the cabinetry sold today. Those of the highest quality are called “furniture grade.” They will be built with %” hardwood, mortise-and-tenon joinery, braced corners, the best hardware, and dovetailed or V-lap joints connecting drawer frames to their fronts. As you go down in price, you’ll find the wood to be thinner or replaced with particle board. Interiors will have rougher finishes, shelf and drawer hardware will be plastic instead of metal, and drawer components will be connected with staples and glue.

European cabinets were introduced to the American consumer in the late 1970s. These cabinets are known for their “clean” look of plastic-laminate doors covering the full face of each cabinet. Behind that look is a different construction method: There is no front frame on the cabinet, on which the door is hung with visible hinges. Instead, the door is hung directly on the cabinet with concealed hinges. And drawers have noticeably more space.

We all know that a bathroom is a good deal more than just a room containing a lavatory basin, toilet and bathtub. Each bathroom is unique, and every person or family has specific basic requirements for a bathroom, as well as different notions as to just what constitutes an ideal arrangement.

A hard-driving executive may dream of getting ready for work in a wood-paneled bathroom, showering in a glass-doored/quarry-tiled enclosure, reaching for a hot towel encased in a warm compartment, grooming over a marble basin in the top of an antique wood dresser. An exhausted mother of four fantasizes about emerging from her private chamber serene and beautiful after exercising in a sun-lit, plant-filled alcove and relaxing in a whirlpool bath. A working couple conjures a streamlined layout that offers dual vanities and separate fixtures for simultaneous showering and bathing and a compartmented toilet and bidet.

The bathroom is probably the only room in the house to which it is possible to escape. Once the door is closed, the room is magically transformed into a very private space, a brief refuge off limits to all but the occupant. How nice it would be if the bathroom itself enhanced the illusion of welcome seclusion.

It can. There are, of course, limits on what you can do to transform your existing bathroom into the truly special place you want it to be. You might have to work around your home’s structural limitations or those of local building codes. The fixture model or color you have dreamed about may not exist at the time you’re ready to start remodeling. You might have to make compromises in function and decor with others who will use the bathroom. And there’s always the budget to consider. Costs can compel you to lower your sights and/or do much of the work yourself—from installing fixtures to setting tile to hanging wallpaper.

But with careful planning and thoughtful execution of your plans, you can turn your ordinary bathroom into a room that satisfies both your needs and your desires.

THE FIRST STEPS

If you’re planning to remodel existing facilities, the first step is to analyze thoroughly all of the requirements of the occupants of the house, evaluate what you have to work with, and then relate the two. By doing so, you’ll discover both the shortcomings and the assets of the existing bathroom. The next step is to decide exactly what you can do to reach your goal—a process that requires a good deal of pondering, soul-searching, and research.

Be sure to discuss your ideas with other members of the household. The number of people using the bathroom, their respective ages, and their schedules will greatly affect the success or failure of your plans.

Although a single person or a couple might get along quite nicely with a lavatory basin, toilet, and shower stall in a small room, this arrangement is unlikely to satisfy a larger number of users. The bigger the family, the bigger the bathroom should be—not only in terms of square footage but also in terms of storage space, accessories and perhaps plumbing fixtures as well. If you anticipate an increase in family size, plan for that increase now. You may conclude that the only answer lies in augmenting the number of bathrooms in your home.

The ages of the various family members must be carefully considered. Toddlers have one set of requirements, young children another, and teenagers often have still another. Adults are generally predictable in their bathroom requirements for a good many years. But elderly persons will often need special aids for convenience and safety. Clearly, you must tailor the bathroom to meet the needs of everyone who will use it on a regular basis.

Schedules count also. When there is just one bathroom available to the six persons who must use it at the same time, the inevitable result is chaos. Additional bathrooms can alleviate the situation, as can a compartmented bathroom. In fact, merely adding a second basin to a well-arranged master bathroom can allow a working couple to get ready each morning with minimum mutual interference. Be sure, therefore, to keep family schedules in mind when planning your bathroom.

Bathroom remodeling is a surefire and relatively easy way to dramatically increase the value of your home. With bathroom remodeling, you get to invent a whole new space according to your personal needs and tastes, rather than the conveniences of the builder. You can improve the shower, add cabinet space, add quiet ventilation, or heated floor tiles to make stepping out of the shower on a cold morning a lot more comfortable.

One of the beauties of remodeling your bathroom is the variety of choices you have for a small room. There are plenty of options for the toilet, sink, cabinetry, tub, mirror, ventilation, lighting, walls, and flooring. Many people that have remodeled their bathrooms have been blown away by the amount of refreshing change that can be fit into a room as common as the bathroom. They thank themselves every day that they installed a new wide washbasin with comfortable, elegant new faucets.

The bathroom is one of the most utilized rooms in a home. This means that bathrooms get some of the most wear and use of any room in your home. The amount of traffic that bathrooms get in a home shows how important a space it is. Having an attractive and comfortable bathroom makes every day better.

That fact is, that the majority of bathrooms are notoriously under designed in the name of a developer’s cost efficiency. This makes your bathroom a likely candidate for a home improvement project. Get a new bathtub, or simply resurface your trusty old tub. While you’re at it, remember that a remodel is the perfect time to install the hot tub or whirlpool you’ve been daydreaming about.

A bathroom improvement project can be classified into two types: surface alterations and tear out/remodels. Many surface alterations you may be able to do yourself, like installing a new mirror or a new toilet. But if you want to install a new tile shower or a heated vanity mirror that never fogs over, you may need the help of a professional. The deeper your renovations the more you are going to need precise and professional electrical and plumbing work.

When planning a bathroom remodel, consider the underlying structure of the bathroom. Bathrooms collect moisture. This means that you are most likely going to need to replace some drywall when you renovate your bathroom. Bathroom drywall is different from regular drywall. You’ll need to use a moisture resistant drywall, often called “green board.” In really wet areas like showers, you may need moisture proof backer board.

If you have already begun your bathroom remodel, or have at least already called around for estimates, the same wealth of choices that are such a thrill at first can become a point of contention. With so many options, from new electrical work to cultured marble tops, where can you find answers? Call around to some of your local bathroom renovators. Find a professional contractor that is patient and informative. Make a list of bathroom remodeling services you can ask about.

A sample list of bathroom remodeling services:
* Major plumbing and electrical
* Painting and refinishing
* Repair and restoration
* Cabinet installation
* Toilets
* Sinks
* Tub installation and resurfacing
* Faucets
* Saunas
* Showers and shower doors
* Whirlpools and hot tubs
* Countertops
* Tiles
* Copper re-piping

One of the advantages of remodeling your bathroom is the satisfaction you get every day from the exquisite action of the new faucets, the softness of the new lighting, the broad spray of the new shower, the pristine gleam of a stone counter top, or the cozy warmth of heated tile floors.

Before you remodel your bathroom, acquaint yourself with the wide variety of options and services available. Visualize the improvements you would like to see in your current bathroom and compare them against a list similar to the one above. Once you have a sense of your needs, you can research each service. Maybe you don’t want to get a new tub, but feel a skylight would be a better addition to your bathroom. Then find a reliable, trustworthy contractor to answer your questions and take a look at your site. Dedicating a little time and resources to your bathroom will increase the value of your home and make it a more functional and satisfying place to live.
